Apologies in Advance

Visitors, I'm sorry to report that the next while will see a marked decrease in the amount of posts going up here. I have moved into a house with no internet and am back in college, where all the filesharing sites I know of (sendspace, mediafire, megaupload etc) are blocked. I'll still try to put stuff up from time to time, so maybe check back every couple of weeks or so.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop - Alchemists of Sound

"Alchemists of Sound" is a bleeping excellent documentary on the legendary pioneers of electronic music who worked at the BBC in the Fifties and Sixties. This is part one, the other parts are also available on youtube.

The Sonics - Here Are The Sonics

"If our records sound distorted, it's because they are. My brother (Larry, guitar) was always fooling around with the amps. They were always overdriven. Or he was disconnecting the speakers and poking a hole in them with an ice pick. That's how we ended up sounding like a train wreck." - Andy Parypa

"The Sonics recorded very, very cheaply on a two track you know, they just used one microphone over the drums, and they got the most amazing drum sound I've ever heard. Still to this day, it's still my favorite drum sound. It sounds like he's hitting harder than anyone I've ever known." - Kurt Cobain

Dr. John - Gris Gris

Man, I love this album. It's like peeking through a curtain at something supremely nefarious.

EVIL.

VOODOO.

RITUALS.

Stars of the Lid - Apreludes in C Sharp Major (mp3)

Beautiful drones.

The triple-vinyl Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline, SOTL's first in six years, is an album I keep meaning to buy. Will hunt it down during the week. I am seriously in the mood for narcotic spacey music. I need calm.

Edit; purchased it...it surpasses my expectations. It's just a pity I don't seem to have enough hours in the day or week to give it enough attention. Or, at the moment, a cd player apart from my laptop. Betty Boo is doin' the do.

Mice Parade - s/t 2007

Really enjoying this latest album from Mice Parade (aka Adam Pierce) which came out last month. The drumming always grabs me first when I listen to Mice Parade (Pierce started out as a drummer/percussionist), but he's also loaded the album with a kaleidoscopic array of instruments and all-round studio alchemy. Sweetly crunching guitars pop in and out, tinkling synths deliver subtle little melodies.

The guest vocalists Kristin Anna Valtysdottir from Múm (featured on standout Double Dolphins on a Dime) and Laetitia Sadier (Tales of Las Negras) are a welcome addition, as Pierce's voice can tend to get a bit monotonous over the course of a full album.

Still, this is really good stuff.

My Bloody Valentine - Peel Session (25/9/1988)

With all the rumours flying about regarding a My Bloody Valentine reunion (please, Buddha, please), it is time for a quick delve into the rarities folder. These are new additions...my thanks go to Chunklet.

I was surprised how close these tracks are to their "proper" versions - they're not just rushed live versions...you're telling me Shields and the band could get through four tracks in a day??

1. I Can See It (But I Can't Feel It)
2. Lose My Breath
3. When You Wake (You're Still In A Dream)
4. Feed Me With Your Kiss
